How this goal began:
It all started Sophomore year when I would bombard my principal with questions on how to start a dance team for our school; I'd truly try to figure the whole thing out. It took so many meetings, for we spoke with various staff and teachers. Finding a teacher for the team had to be the hardest part; not to mention very FIRST step. As the year progressed we only saw ourselves getting closer to something we aspired to do.
The following year rolled on by and before I knew it I grew to be a Junior. This vision of a dance team never seemed to leave my mind, so I continued to take the initiative and further build upon the idea. Luckily, my best friend and I both went to the same studio and school, therefore she joined me and began pushing for the team alongside myself. We soon found ourselves visiting the main office two times each week. As the idea began to form, another one of my friends was eager to take part, he introduced the idea of a Coed dance team. The idea just kept building until January 16 flew by and we attended a meeting with our Board of Education and proposed our goal with the staff. We were beyond pleased with the reactions of each member of the Board and absolutely taken back when they announced that our idea was approved!
I have been dancing competitively for 8 years and have always had a vision to bring a competitive dance team to my school. I enjoy dance more than anything else and I have been determined to make this change for the upcoming generations who share the same passion as myself. Dance is very expensive to take part in, therefore teenagers deserve the chance to grow as both an individual and dancer through an affordable school-related program. Introducing a coed dance team to our school will only open up such positive doors for the district and children.
I am telling you, in the end after the longest or shortest time, if you keep strong to something, it will happen. Hard work always pays off in the end and your dedication to something will NEVER go unnoticed. Head up, always. You can do it. Yea, you!
